ABOUT THE PROJECT

Adult education, as a key aspect of social and professional development, must be adapted to the needs of all individuals, including those with specific challenges such as acquired motor impairments. Since individuals with acquired motor impairments often face obstacles that hinder their access to educational opportunities, there is a need for inclusive educational practices that will enable their equal participation in social, professional, and educational spheres. Through the project "Paths of Inclusive Learning: Adapting Adult Education Programs for Individuals with Acquired Motor Impairments" – AdaptED, we aim to provide concrete guidelines and strategies that will make existing educational trainings more inclusive. In collaboration with partners from various countries and sectors, this project seeks to transform current educational practices and ensure equal access to education for individuals facing challenges due to acquired motor impairments. The final output of the project will be a manual that will offer practical information, guidelines, and recommendations to educators, policymakers, and organizations involved in adult education for the development and implementation of inclusive strategies. The manual is the result of joint efforts by an international team of experts and will include not only theoretical guidelines but also concrete examples of good practice. It is based on the experiences and feedback of users, as well as the latest research and approaches in the field of inclusive education..

Project Objectives – In Brief

The project aims to create a transformative impact by addressing the urgent need for inclusive practices in adult education, with a special focus on individuals with acquired motor impairments. This key objective involves the development and implementation of strategies that make educational programs more accessible to this specific group. Through collaborative work and a joint approach—drawing on the expertise of partner organizations and applying innovative methods—we aim to create sustainable models for inclusive adult education. The project is aligned with the horizontal priority of “Inclusion and diversity in all fields of education, training, youth, and sport,” reinforcing the importance of inclusive educational practices and their essential role in modern society. A particular emphasis is placed on developing concrete strategies to ensure equal access to educational programs for individuals with acquired motor impairments, with the aim of providing equal opportunities and improving the accessibility of educational institutions for this group. One of the specific objectives is to provide training for educators and trainers on inclusive teaching methodologies, equipping them with the skills necessary to address diverse educational needs effectively. This enables the practical application of inclusive practices in their daily work and contributes to the priority of “Improving the competencies of educators and other staff involved in education and guidance,” with a special focus on accessibility and tailored support. Another core objective is the development of specialized educational content tailored to the unique learning needs of individuals with acquired motor impairments. Through this, the project aims to produce adapted learning materials that address the specific needs of this group, thereby directly contributing to the themes of “Disability and employability.” In addition, the project will produce a comprehensive manual containing best practices and guidelines for integrating individuals with acquired motor impairments into the educational system—particularly within the context of non-formal adult education. This manual will serve as a key tool for expanding the application of inclusive practices and improving their use within educational institutions, in line with the priority of “Inclusion and diversity in all fields of education, training, youth, and sport.” The primary target group includes educators/trainers and staff involved in adult education programs, as well as the organizations delivering those programs. The project also aims to reach individuals facing challenges due to acquired motor impairments, with the goal of enabling their access to inclusive education and supporting the acquisition of skills necessary for re-entering the labor market. Expected beneficiaries also include experts in special education and rehabilitation, policymakers, and representatives of relevant institutions.

Expected Results

The project is based on the belief that education is a universal right. By focusing on individuals with acquired motor impairments, we align with the imperative to ensure equal access to education for every person, regardless of physical ability. Well-designed and adapted educational programs can be approved and implemented when developed through the synergy of experts and the users themselves—individuals with acquired motor impairments. The purpose of actively involving individuals with acquired motor impairments in the process of modifying and creating educational programs lies in the direct collection and sharing of information about the potential impact such programs could have in empowering people with motor impairments to develop new skills and promote their professional and personal growth. The motivation of adults with acquired motor impairments to participate in preparing educational programs is of immediate interest, as improved education can facilitate their continued employment or return to the workplace. An acquired impairment should not be an obstacle—it can serve as a foundation for creating education programs that enable the development of existing skills, the acquisition of new ones, and the cultivation of a positive attitude toward learning, realistic goal-setting, honest self-assessment, and a constructive self-image. The motivation behind this project lies in a long-term vision. It is not just about short-term outcomes; the essence lies in laying the foundation for a future where the benefits of improved education have a lasting impact on society—fostering progress, prosperity, and the creation of a more compassionate environment.
